Seeds for Action Programme: Connect & Co-Work Sessions

Environment icon

Join a growing community of museum people who are taking climate action, at our regular peer-learning support sessions.

Find out what other people are working on, get support for the challenges you are facing and celebrate the successes. Ali Criddle, Museum Development Advisor: Environmental Responsibility for Museum Development North, and colleagues, will be on hand to offer advice and help you to make useful connections. You will be able to access and contribute to the Seeds for Action bank of resources.

Carve out some dedicated time in your busy diary to do this important climate action work. During the session you’ll have opportunity to connect with people, or to progress your own work whilst virtually working alongside others.

The session has two parts:
Part 1 (60 minutes): A chance for anyone who wants to, to share:
Your current and future plans for taking climate action,
Any positive steps you have made,
Any challenges you’ve faced or areas where you are looking for support,
Any interesting and inspiring examples of relevant work you’ve seen happening in the sector and beyond.

Part 2 (30 minutes) Stay for some dedicated co-focus time. You might choose to:
Crack on with something on your climate action to-do-list,
Pop into a breakout room for a more in-depth conversation with someone, or
Pick something from the resource bank for a deeper dive.
Towards the end of the sessions, we will have a quick check-in, so you can share any progress or issues if you want to.

What do attendees think?
“Wonderful to meet other people and hear of work in other museums. Felt very friendly with a spirit of sharing.”

“Really nice to have a platform to share creative solutions for museums that are low capacity and low cost!”

“Great to have time to work on green matters during the session.”

“Lovely to hear updates – it’s a spur to action.”

Practicalities: These are informal sessions, and you are welcome to stay for as long as you like. There is no pressure to share if you just want to come along and be inspired by others. Please don’t worry if you feel you haven’t made much progress on taking climate action so far – this is not a test, and maybe this session can help get the ball rolling!

Next dates:
The sessions happen every two months, and last 1.5 hours. Next sessions:

Background
Part of Roots & Branches, the Seeds for Action programme aims to connect museum people, and the organisations they represent and work with, to develop and build on their carbon reduction strategies and approaches to taking climate action.
The programme is managed and delivered by Museum Development North on behalf of Museum Development England. The sessions are facilitated by Catherine Mailhac, a Carbon Literate Freelancer, who is working with us to deliver the Seeds for Action Programme.
