Raising and Earning Money

Building confidence and skills in museum income generation

The Raising and Earning Money programme is a structured series of sessions designed to help museums grow sustainable income streams. It supports participants to explore a range of fundraising and earned income approaches, with a strong emphasis on practical application.

Through expert input, real-world examples, and peer learning, the programme helps you build confidence and take meaningful action within your organisation.

There will be five stand-alone sessions
The sessions aim to give a clear understanding of key income streams:

  • Individual giving
  • Corporate partnerships and sponsorship
  • Grants and trusts
  • Commercial and earned income opportunities
  • Insight into ethical and legal responsibilities in UK fundraising
  • Tools to identify, engage, and motivate supporters.
  • Strategies for donor development and retention
  • Space to reflect on and apply learning to your own museum context.

How it works

  • A series of stand-alone interactive 2-hour online sessions
  • Contributions from experienced sector practitioners and guest speakers
  • Time for discussion, reflection, and shared problem-solving

  • An opportunity to be part of an action learning set to look at barriers to fundraising.
