Museum Forums

MD North supports a number of in-person and on-line forums bringing people around the region together to share experiences and hear more about what is happening in the sector.

In Yorkshire, there are four in-person regional forums which take place three times a year:  North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and East Riding Northern Lincolnshire.  These forums offer you “a professional day out” – a chance to catch up with museum colleagues, visit an interesting venue, get the most out of being at a site, hear some interesting case studies – and enjoy being out in a different museum with different colleagues!  The forums are often themed, and people volunteering or working in museum across the North are welcome to attend. If you would like to offer to be a venue for a Yorkshire forum then please get in touch hello@museumdevelopmentnorth.org.uk.  For details of the upcoming forums visit here.

In the North East, there is the Voluntary Organisations Network (VON) which is a forum for volunteer-run museums that meets online monthly and twice a year in-person at one of our member venues. The Network provides the opportunity for volunteers to exchange knowledge, receive training and keep up to date with sector developments. For more details, contact Ian Bapty (ian.bapty@museumdevelopmentnorth.org.uk)

In the North West there are five regional forums, some continue to meet online, others are now meeting in-person. Each forum is made up of members from a specific county or part of a county. The frequency of meetings, venues and content are set by the members, who meet to exchange knowledge, discuss issues facing them all, keep up to date with sector developments and work collectively on projects.  For more details, contact Lynsey Jones (lynsey.jones@museumdevelopmentnorth.org.uk) or Kaye Hardyman (kaye.hardyman@museumdevelopmentnorth.org.uk).
