Seeds for Action: In Focus – Engaging audiences with climate issues

Environment icon

This session is for you if you are interested in:

  • Using collections to engage people with climate change and action,
  • Taking a creative approach to starting climate conversations.

Find out how the Discovery Museum has been engaging all ages with the climate crisis through Steam to Green: A North East Energy Revolution. This exhibition and event programme explores the story of energy in the North East. Their public programme has included comedy nights, ‘digital detox’ evenings and ‘meet the expert’ sessions.

How have the team navigated the controversies and challenging feelings surrounding this complex subject? How have they encouraged a sense of hope and empowered visitors to see that individual and community actions really can make a difference? Join Alexandra Longrigg, Assistant Keeper, and Daniel Stoker, Assistant Documentation Officer, from North East Museums to find out more.

What will the session involve?
This workshop is a chance to learn with Carbon Literacy course graduates and others who are tackling similar issues. There will be a lightning talk from our invited speaker, and time to connect with others. During the session we will collectively explore:

  • What are the challenges to taking action and how are we overcoming them?
  • What is making a positive difference and having the biggest impact in our organisations?
  • What research are we doing and what data is being gathered?
  • What useful templates, tools and top tips can we share with each other?

Everyone is welcome, from beginners to experts. There will be opportunities to join the conversation and to share your experiences or you are welcome to simply listen to others.
