How to Measure Your Carbon Footprint, Online with Historic England

How to Measure Your Carbon Footprint has been designed to support organisations to identify their emissions and measure a simple carbon footprint. It is being offered as a pilot by Historic England only to museums in the North of England at this stage.

This 2-hour online trainer led session covers the following:

  • Identify your organisation’s (activities that create) emissions and organise them into scopes.
  • Calculate your organisation’s carbon footprint using information about emissions usage and online tools.
  • Know where to find resources, signposting, and support.
  • By the end of the workshop, learners will have a clear plan of how to gather the information they need and calculate a simple carbon footprint.

Attendees

  • Must work or volunteer for a museum in the North of England.
  • Only one participant per organisation.
  • Are expected to have a Carbon Literacy level knowledge of climate change before attending this workshop.

This training is a starting point for organisations who want to work towards following the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol principles. It is not designed for organisations who need to report their emissions to the government.

Further Training

An additional session led by Historic England will be delivered on 3 September 2025 supporting you to develop a Carbon Reduction Plan.
