Seeds for Action: In Focus – Sustainability studies and decarbonising historic buildings

This session is for you if you are interested in:
- Making significant changes by reducing emissions in historic buildings
- Conducting sustainability studies to influence needs and future planning
Haworth Art Gallery, a public art gallery and Arts & Crafts House, is decarbonising their building. Part of Historic England’s Toward Net Zero Pilot, they have conducted a sustainability study, using the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme as a template. The work includes a measure survey, a condition survey and a costed Management and Maintenance Plan for the next 20 years. From original radiators to high tech drones, find out more with Gillian Berry, Head of Museums and Heritage Development at Hyndburn Borough Council.
What will the session involve?
This workshop is a chance to learn with Carbon Literacy course graduates and others who are tackling similar issues. There will be a lightning talk from our invited speaker, and time to connect with others. During the session we will collectively explore:
- What are the challenges to taking action and how are we overcoming them?
- What is making a positive difference and having the biggest impact in our organisations?
- What research are we doing and what data is being gathered?
- What useful templates, tools and top tips can we share with each other?
Everyone is welcome, from beginners to experts. There will be opportunities to join the conversation and to share your experiences or you are welcome to simply listen to others.
