Elevenses, Thursday 27 June, Designing Exhibitions with Ruth McKew from Headland Design

tea cup and biscuit

Come along to chat about how to get started designing exhibitions. We will discuss what exhibition designers do, and what you could do in house. How to get started and how interpretation planning will help to shape the designs. We will talk about costs and timescales and consider how to brief exhibition designers.

Ruth McKew is celebrating working in museums for 25 years! Her first job was a curator at a military museum, followed by curator for a LA museum service (and watermill). Working freelance Ruth worked with small local museums to develop new audiences, interpretation and to support collections management. After a few years living in Malawi Ruth joined Headland and took over as director in 2015. Headland Design work on a wide range of projects, including interpretive planning, exhibition fit out and design, audience development and activity planning and have just completed research for the Welsh Government considering capital needs for museums and national bodies. Ruth has a passion for smaller museums and finding new ways to help museums connect to their audiences.

Insightful, interactive and informal, come along to gain new insights from our guests, meet colleagues from the region, connect with the MD North team and discuss your own projects. Everyone who works and volunteers in museums is most welcome, including museum freelancers who want to stay connected.
