Elevenses, 16 January 2026, Welcoming Migrants, exploring a people-centred approach to collections

During 2025 the University of Leeds Library Cultural Collections & Galleries worked in partnership with Leeds Asylum Seeker Support Network (LASSN) to collaborate with a group of refugee and asylum seeker women.
The 9-week project supported the group to explore the University’s galleries, public art trail and green spaces. The group encountered artworks and objects that celebrate the natural world. Supported by textile artist Ranya Abdulateef, the women experimented with a range of techniques to produce their own responses. The project resulted in a co-produced exhibition, In Touch, with Nature, which shares artworks and collection objects alongside personal interpretations from members of the group.
Join Rachel Craddock, Learning Coordinator, to discuss the challenges of co-production and championing community voice and the power of objects and making to bring people together.
