Data Collection for Audience Research, Online

Audience research is a vital activity to inform a museum’s strategy, audience development, and marketing. Ideally, you’d have visitor surveys, research and data that will give you useful insights, particular to your organisation and its audience. But it’s a long-term process, and it can be challenging to get it right.

The session is designed to cover some of the basic skills and topics that museums will find useful, including:

  • Understanding data quality and how many surveys to aim for
  • Effective ways to increase the number of surveys collected
  • Ensuring more representative data collection
  • Good survey design and insightful, useful questions to include

This session is delivered in partnership with the Digital Culture Network and Museum Development, for museums.  It is repeated on 5 March 2026 and you can book for either session using the link below.

This session is suitable for anyone who is responsible for designing and/or overseeing the delivery of audience survey collection, and who is interested in improving the number of surveys collected and the data quality.

It’s pitched at an Intermediate level and is aimed at museums designing or improving their own visitor surveys, and looking for the most effective ways to collect them.
