Deaccessioning and disposal occur as part of responsible collections management, in the context of a museum’s Collections Development Policy. This session will focus on the Spectrum 5.1 Deaccessioning and disposal procedure. We will review policy considerations, Spectrum requirements and suggested procedure. We will also signpost to guidance and toolkits for methods of disposal, decision-making and documentation.

There will opportunities to discuss with colleagues, ask questions throughout and submit questions in advance.

There are 24 places on this workshop. Places are available for museums in the north of England, priority will be given to those which are not regularly funded by Arts Council England or central government. If there are more than two delegates from a single museum booked on a workshop we reserve the right to amend delegate lists to allow museums from the waiting list to participate.

By the end of the session, attendees will:

  • Understand the Spectrum requirements and policy guidance for Deaccessioning and disposal
  • Understand the Spectrum suggested procedure for Deaccessioning and disposal
  • Know where to find more information and guidance
