Seeds for Action: In Focus – Carbon Tracking and Budgeting in Smaller Museums

This session is for you if you are interested in:
*Finding out about simple tools to budget, track and report carbon impact from your activity in a smaller museum,
*Seeing how others are tackling this in their organisations.
When time and money are tight, gathering the right data is critical for making good decisions. The Museum Carbon Budget Tool and Impact Tracker are freely available spreadsheets created with smaller museums in mind. The simplified tools focus on areas where museums can make the biggest difference to their carbon impact. They have been developed as part of Museum Development South East’s Environmentally Responsible Museums Project by NZC Services Ltd.
Find out how these tools can be relevant and useful for you, with a lightning talk from Kathy Moore, from NZC Services. Kathy advises and supports heritage organisations in environmental responsibility, learning and engagement in climate, biodiversity and science. She is a Carbon Literacy trainer and the Environmental Responsibility Champion and, until recently, Deputy Chair of GEM (Group for Education in Museums). Kathy was previously Museum Development Project Officer with SHARE Museums East.
You can download the template spreadsheets for free from the Museum Development South East site: https://mdse.org.uk/resource-library/mdse-carbon-tracker-and-carbon-budget-tools/. At present, there is no free technical support available for using this tool.
What will the session involve?
This workshop is a chance to learn with Carbon Literacy course graduates and others who are tackling similar issues. There will be a lightning talk from our invited speaker, and time to connect with others. During the session we will collectively explore:
*What are the challenges to taking action and how are we overcoming them?
*What is making a positive difference and having the biggest impact in our organisations?
*What research are we doing and what data is being gathered?
*What useful templates, tools and top tips can we share with each other?
Everyone is welcome, from beginners to experts. There will be opportunities to join the conversation and to share your experiences or you are welcome to simply listen to others.
