Seeds for Action: In Focus – A care-centred approach to climate action

Seeds for Action: In Focus – A care-centred approach to climate action
10:00–11:30 Wednesday 10 December 2025
This session is for you if you are interested in:
- Supporting staff wellbeing whilst tackling the climate emergency,
- Exploring the role collections and nature can play in reducing climate anxiety within the museum workforce
The constant stream of news stories and worries about climate change can feel overwhelming at times. Our small actions can feel insignificant, and the timescales alarming. We know that many staff and volunteers are, understandably, experiencing eco-distress, and that this can have an impact on our work. This session explores how organisations can proactively support their staff by taking a care-centred approach to climate action. How can we foster a positive, supportive community within our organisations as we do this challenging work?
Dr Sarah Younan, Innovation Researcher, is leading #GROW – Amgueddfa Cymru, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Through this project, Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales are starting to develop their organisational culture to reduce eco-distress amongst their workforce. They have adapted and used the UCL Creative Wellbeing Measures Toolkit to gather useful data, drawn on collections for inspiration and developed nature-based activities for staff. Join Dr Younan to find out more about the project, their successes and challenges so far, and plans for the future.
What will the session involve?
This workshop is a chance to learn with Carbon Literacy course graduates and others who are tackling similar issues. There will be a lightning talk from our invited speaker, and time to connect with others. During the session we will collectively explore:
- What are the challenges to taking action and how are we overcoming them?
- What is making a positive difference and having a positive impact in our organisations?
- What research are we doing and what data is being gathered?
- What useful templates, tools and top tips can we share with each other?
Everyone is welcome, from beginners to experts. There will be opportunities to join the conversation and to share your experiences or you are welcome to simply listen to others. #SeedsForAction #CarbonLiteracy
