Northern Museums Receive V80 Grants

Marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe, marking the Allied victory in Europe during World War II, the UK Government has supported Arts Council England in allocating £500,000 worth of funds to Museum Development partners across England to support 21 VE Day projects.
The projects, commemorating the millions of people from across the UK and Commonwealth who served in the Second World War, tell the diverse stories of those who lived through the most transformative and devastating conflict in world history. They will be continuing throughout the year and their impact will be measured by their providers and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
So far this year, Museum Development North has supported The Beacon Museum and Pannett Art Gallery, alongside three other successful museums.
- The Beacon Museum hosted an exhibition ‘Service, Solidarity and Sacrifice’ reflecting on Copeland’s WWII experience.
- Pannett Art Gallery will be hosted a diverse set of engagement events, exploring the experiences of local people, including food, rationing and the adaptation from wartime to peacetime.
