Church shaped structure on offer from Wakefield Museums and Castles

Wakefield Museums and Castles have a bright and fun bespoke made structure to recycle to another museum.  It was commissioned as the centre piece showcasing museum models and interactives in their latest exhibition – Picturing Pontefract. Made from 19mm coloured Valchromat, with frosted Perspex windows, it is just over 3m tall, 2.4m wide and 1.59 deep.

Valchromat is a distinctive decorative wood fibre panel which is coloured throughout and engineered for high physical performance. The fibres are coloured individually, impregnated with organic dyes and bonded together by a special resin, giving Valchromat exceptional physical and mechanical qualities. With a higher density than standard MDF, it produces crisper edges and better machining properties.

The structure is made up from a series of 784mm square panels, held together inside with metal brackets. It has a protruding unit at tabletop height, that can be detached. The windows have frosted Perspex attached from the inside. These can be removed. Or if someone wanted to, you would be able to drop a light in from the top of the spire, to illuminate it from the inside!

Collection from Pontefract Museum – week of 5th October 2026. Can be easily dismantled and rebuilt. It will have some screw holes, but spare material is available to plug these. Sketchup drawings available on request.
