Manchester Cathedral – Volunteer Coordinator

Manchester Cathedral is undertaking a major National Lottery Heritage Fund project, Our Cathedral, Our City, which will strengthen its work with communities, expand public access to its heritage, and support the long-term sustainability of its mission and fabric. The Cathedral now seeks a Volunteer Coordinator to lead and develop its volunteering programme as part of this project.
Volunteering is central to the Cathedral’s life and work. This role will shape and deliver a structured, inclusive and sustainable volunteer programme, supporting a wide range of activity including visitor welcome, tours, events, heritage interpretation and community engagement.
The Volunteer Coordinator will work across the Cathedral and with Volition Community to integrate existing volunteering pathways and build a cohesive and diverse volunteer cohort. The role includes developing a volunteer management framework, undertaking a skills audit, and establishing recruitment, training, communication and recognition processes. The postholder will oversee day-to-day coordination, support volunteer development, and help embed volunteering across the organisation.
The role will work closely with Cathedral staff, clergy and the project team to support delivery of the Activity Plan, enhance visitor experience, and contribute to the development of a new volunteer hub. It will also involve monitoring, evaluation and reporting on volunteer activity and impact.
Closing date – 17 April
