Collections Trust National Briefings

Collections Trust are delivering a regular programme of free introductory one-hour briefings on the main primary Spectrum procedures.
Held approximately once a fortnight throughout the year, the briefings cover the basics of each procedure. Museums and individuals can use these introductions in different ways in their own collections management practice and development.
For museums:
- Do you want to improve your team’s understanding of managing collections and Spectrum?
- Do you have new staff or trustees who would benefit from Spectrum training as part of their induction?
- Do you want to develop the knowledge of volunteers working with your collections?
- Is developing collections management knowledge part of a team training plan?
- Do you have Areas for Development around following the Spectrum primary procedures from your last Accreditation return?
For individuals:
- Do you work with collections and want a refresher?
- Do you work outside of collections but want to understand how they’re managed?
- Is developing collections management knowledge part of your training plan?
- Are you new to the sector and looking to build your knowledge?
These introductions show how Spectrum and the primary procedures underpin collections work, managing collections well so museums can make full use of them and contribute towards meeting the Accreditation Standard.
The briefings are:
- Introduction to Spectrum
- Object entry
- Acquisition and accessioning
- Location and movement control
- Inventory
- Cataloguing
- Object exit
- Loans in and loans out
- Documentation planning
- Location audits
The briefings are open to all but booking is required. Details of the upcoming sessions are here. Keep checking back as more sessions are added throughout the year.
