Elevenses, Wednesday 1 May, Developing Digital Engagement for Curiosity and Critical Thinking
In this session Rosie Barrett will discuss the development of two new digital learning platforms, ‘Museum of the Highlands’ (from the Highlands of Scotland) and ‘Out of the Box’ (from North Yorkshire). Both have been designed to increase assess to collections within the community, drawing on extensive user consultation with community groups and schools in the regions.
Rosie will examine how the platforms and resources have been developed to create curiosity, critical thinking and sensory exploration, using digital technology on tight budgets. She’ll outline why these platforms were needed and the role that digital resources can play in bridging the gap between museums and the community, particularly in rural areas.
Rosie is a freelance heritage education consultant specialising in making difficult heritage accessible for a range of audiences. She was project lead for the Museum of Highlands and is currently developing Out of the Box in partnership with North Yorkshire Council and over 20 museums and heritage organisations across the country, with funding from Arts Council England.
