Collections at the Heart – Security of collections information

The information a museum holds about its collection is fundamental to managing and using it. Some of today’s current documentation issues have arisen from losses of collections information in the past, from one-off events such as an electronic transfer to a new collections management system that didn’t go smoothly, to day-to-day procedures that haven’t kept pace with staff or technology changes.

A risk assessment of security arrangements for collections to meet Accreditation requirements (3.2) also includes for collections information to be kept secure.

This workshop will highlight some of the minimum requirements of Spectrum procedures to prompt museums to consider the security of the information they hold, whether in a documentation policy, plan or procedure, hard copy information or digital.
